HEROES GET REMEMBERED

The snowflaked mare wouldn’t be the first or last one to regret approaching Anath, and she couldn’t be faulted for that. She was full of teeth. Sharp edges. Diplomacy was something she’d never needed to concern herself with: Anath knew how to fight. That had always been enough. She’d gotten herself far enough that way. Shortcomings were Anath’s specialty, she had so incredibly many.

At least, at the apology, the red mare had softened some. Anath didn’t hold it against her. At least now, she had the self awareness to know that she was an acquired taste. Siobhan, the name comes. As with many others, the retired general would commit it to memory. All of the memories… too many memories. Standing here in the Inlet, there were so many thoughts in her head. So many ghosts here. At least in her mind’s eye they were thriving.

A smile cracked the battle hardened creature’s lips, a light reaching her eyes. Her nod was a quick affirmation for Siobhan, listening carefully-- ah. “While I haven’t personally met her, my own daughter thinks highly of her.” The update that she’d received from Bane (also stilted, uncomfortable, and wildly awkward) had included so many new names. Oswin, Clarity, Hollis. Róisín had been the one that Bane lingered on, speaking on how the girl aspired to be general, how she had new ideas.

Though the retired general was generally resistant to change, she couldn’t help but recognize the shifts that the Islands had undergone. The Peak needed to evolve as well. In truth, Bane had disappointed Anath gravely, but it seemed there was hope for Róisín’s generation. As her gaze shifted back to Siobhan, the champagne mare feels as if she’s truly seeing the woman for the first time. Though she had come to the Inlet chasing ghosts, she’s found someone far more real. It strikes her that she hasn’t been fair to Siobhan. “She’s running for the general’s seat, and she’s uncontested.” Anath would always feel a certain fondness for those who’d put their names in, ambitious enough to vie for her old seat.
