There are some things you can only learn in a storm .
Presti allowed a smile at the other mare's shock when she dipped below the water. Letting the current push the debris and dust of her coat, she leaned into the pressure for a moment before dragging herself from the safety of the water.
She made her way towards Esther, and then once at an adequate distance, shook herself sending droplets of water flying through the air.
The ruins? What are those? The Fjord mare tilted her head, her ears flopping comically to one side. She did wonder why the mare didn't want companionship. Why she didn't yearn for it. The idea of having a group to rely on and to trust. A group to grow old with, to raise foals with, but also just to enjoy life together.
Though now that she thought about it, she loved the life she had with her dad. It didn't mean she wasn't happy or healthy, or that she didn't have enough.
Want to go together? She spoke without thinking, and flattened her ears slightly for a moment after she had finished speaking. She hadn't thought about saying that, or anything past that. What would her father do? Would she be alright on her own? She didn't even know this mare, and yet she was volunteering to go with her. She thought about what her father would say, and wondered if he would be sad. Would he be on his own again, just like how he was before her? She felt guilty for a moment, as if she had been responsible for keeping him sane these last few years.
She grabbed a mouthful of soft grass that was growing on the bank and chewed while she thought. She waited to see what the other mare would say, almost hoping that she would turn down her offer. Then she wouldn't have to leave her comfort zone and she wouldn't have to have a difficult conversation with her father. They could keep that balance that they had had for so long.
