will you come to find me?

finch
Finch

When Finch had taken them to Tinuvel, she wasn’t sure what she expected to find. Some long lost feeling of being home? Of a mother she only dreamed about, or a father that actually wanted her? Instead, the filly was met with the same chill she had been given since birth. Only the warmth of Hades beside her could give her any sort of comfort, and she had quickly wanted to go home. Her real home. The rocks, mountains, snow and pines only made her hate the place even more. Finch never wanted to see another pine tree again.

Yet when they returned, even that was not the same. Hades made it upon land before she did, not that she was but a few strides behind. Still, his panic was obvious in the way that his body changed, but before she could reach him, Hades was already moving inland. For the first few strides, Finch scrambled through the surf to try and catch him. Yet the young stallion had already been swallowed by the jungle, leaving Finch panting for breath and filled with confusion and dread alone.

Looking around, the young mare didn’t see another soul. Even their scents were not strong and demanding as they should be. Rather than go inland and Hades did, Finch decided to stay along the surf. Picking up a trot and then a gallop, her soaked feather covered legs quickly became heavy from the sand but she didn’t care. Only when she could barely breath, and her heart was about to beat free of her chest (from fear and exertion) did she stop. “Rivaini!” Finch couldn’t help but finally scream out, only her voice echoing back before the crash of the surf drown it out. “Faolain!” Only the sound of the Ridge answered.

Abandoned….. Finch felt abandoned, again. This was surely her fault, her curse, and now she had brought it down upon Hades. Tears began to stream down her colored face, but rather than run away, the mare turned inland to try and find her companion. To tell him how sorry she was for causing this, and how she would try to fix it. Perhaps she could find them? Convince them to come back? Anything…. Finch would do anything, because she knew that it would comfort Hades.

But before the young mare made it all the way up the bank to the jungle, a scent brought her pause. Head turning, she peered further down the shoreline where she had not ventured to yet. “Faolain?!” she called out again, only seeing the dark sea slicked body resting there. Without thinking, Finch quickly rushed over, but as she approached she made the clear realization that it wasn’t the black mare she was seeking, but a stranger instead.

“Hello?” she said gently, trying to cut back her tears to focus on the stranger instead as she gave her a few soft nudges to try and wake her.
