Re(1): George Mayo

Good Evening Mike?
My name is Geoff Pycroft and I am the Researcher and Archivist for the Lancashire Fusiliers Web. Given his age I will assume that he is a pre WWI soldier....possibly Boer War era? If that is the case then their are no records held locally and you would have to research the National Archives which will be the only source of accurate verifiable information. In case he was a WWI Veteran I have checked the Forces War Records Web Site. 141 individuals with the name George Mayo or G.Mayo are recorded but none are Lancashire Fusiliers.
I have also checked the WWI Medal Rolls held by the National Archives and cannot trace him on the known details. The Medal Card Index held by ancestry.com records 401 individuals of that name or simply G.Mayo...again none are Lancashire Fusiliers. The nearest possibilities are two individuals named George Mayo who both served in the North Lancashire Regiment.
I have also checked his name against the only known Lancashire Fusiliers Nominal Roll drawn up during the Boer War. He is not listed.
The Fusilier Museum Bury would also refer you to the records held by the National Archives.
Given the limited information I cannot progress your enquiry further.
