The shadow watched her ears flicker backwards, and his pulse picked up once more. Ears backwards, yet she listed just… just a bit towards him. Viđarr longs to touch her. He longs to reach out, to feel her skin on his. Mixed signals from the spotted mare, and mixed feelings hanging between them. Still, the shadow’s heart hammered in his chest. If he knew she wouldn’t run, she wouldn’t flee, then he could reach out and touch her. Viđarr could keep her safe, and never stop keeping her safe. When nature was cruel and the world was cold, the best revenge was surviving at all. Viđarr himself was the god of vengeance. Surviving, and then thriving. There was a difference. The shadow ached to build her up too, and bring her up with him. Social skills… social skills. He knew what it was to feel like an alien when it came to everyone else. Words didn’t come easily to Viđarr, and he was generally content with quiet. Generally. Still, the shadow owed her an apology. She softened. As the mare relaxed, Viđarr did as well. Towards his side, the mare crept. The shadow sidled closer, closing the gap by degrees. It was with arms wide open that he would catch her, and he would hold her up. Hold her, build her up, and take care of her as best he could. Viđarr felt a pull, nearly gravitational. He came to rest just a breath away– the very last step would be hers. “Käraste, please, forgive me for leaving.” The words were soft. Viđarr’s breath was warm in the air between them, melting the snowflakes as they landed on his muzzle and eyelashes. All he could do was hope that she would forgive him.
