Twilight Zone: Milford Amateur Jai-Alai Posted on January 16, 2018 at 02:25:49 PM by Tiger
In the '70s, I worked at Turnkey Systems in Norwalk, CT. Doug Miller worked there, too. Turnkey's founders, Tod Pontius and Lee Keet were both jai-alai fans, and we'd hit Bridgeport or Milford now and then. As it turns out, Pontius was an early patron/investor in Milford Amateur Jai-Alai, but, although I had known Tod for years, I never had the foggiest notion he had any connection to Milford Amateur.
The 2009 Connecticut players reunion was held at the home of John ("Tino") Sorrentino. I was there, and met Robert Schwartz, whose father had helped start Milford Amateur. Robert (Jr) had also been president, and Doug Miller an officer. But, Milford Amateur had not been mentioned and, having just met, I yet had no idea who Robert was. Then, out of the blue, he says:
"You sound just like someone I know, Tod Pontius."
Now, this came totally from left field, since Tod had never been mentioned, and there was no such connection remotely to be imagined.
Needless to say, we had plenty to talk about after that.
