You’ll do great, Vera couldn’t help but smile softly to herself as he said it. Did he really think so? Maybe he was just being kind. He was here asking for a favor after all… he did sorta need to be kind. He needed to endear himself to the individuals he found here, because he was coming with an ask. Maybe… maybe that was all it was. Vera was able to convince herself of that, at least. Zevulun had to be friendly, he had to be charming, he had to be… all the things he was being right now. Politics and all. Right.

Politics were hard. Soft spoken as she was, Vera spoke up more on Valka’s behalf than Zevulun’s. Though she knew the mare was more than capable of handling herself in literally all situations (and far better at it than Vera could ever dream of being), a part of her still felt like she could help things go more smoothly. The skjaldmær had a way about her that Vera admired deeply, but sometimes it could come off as a bit sharp for those not used to it. Genuinely, the tenderhearted little mare was scared of conflict. If she could do anything to prevent potential conflict before it even began, that was ideal.

At Valka’s frown, her heart dropped nearly to her knees. Had she done something wrong? Had she messed things up oh– okay wait no. The skjaldmær’s glance to her, the softer look, was a balm to her nerves. From their conversation to whatever was going on in the red mare’s head, it seemed like she’d gone somewhere far away. Vera didn’t blame her, though she did consider taking her leave. Did they still need her? Valka was far better at this sort of thing than she was, but something made her want to stay too. Was she intruding? She was probably intruding. She should go…

But there was a question in the air, and Vera wanted to know the answer. Softly, her gaze flickered to the pale stallion. That seemed like a fair enough question– why didn’t he fight for what he seemed to love so dearly? The sooty mare was curious. It was that curiosity which kept her in place, instead of fleeing. Still, this wasn’t her conversation to interrupt. It was barely a conversation she was allowed to intrude on.
