Boss's Decree

"For every brother you bring to our
midst, you may keep a trinket all to
yourself. She will not be sullied or traded, unless you deem otherwise. But should you bring a mare here without a new brother first, then I will consider her property of the Lagoon as a whole
and do with her as I see fit." - Garmr

Rules

• The Lagoon is where homeless stallions come to live as a brotherhood. Mares may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Soldiers keep mainly to fighting, Thieves keep mainly to raiding, and Associates may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Marauder or Boss for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Boss maintains order within the Lagoon and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Lagoon works on the Rules page.

• Upon election, the Boss can issue a rule for members to follow during their tenure. It is up to leadership to enforce.

HEROES GET REMEMBERED rade

After the last set of twins, Anath swore she’d never do this again. She swore it, and yet… well, she’d gone and done it. She’d gone and made some bad choices. Choices that had the possibility, at her age, to kill her. Choices that were likely regrettable. Likely, but… well. It was hard to really regret them when she saw their faces. Maybe she’d gone soft in her old age. Maybe she was finally soft enough to actually do this and not fuck it up. Though Anath lacks in actual mothering instinct, she’s gotten it wrong enough times to have a decent idea of what not to do.

She chased thoughts of Zavulon from her head, as well. The boy she hadn’t raised with her own hands, the one that had a real mother. He’d come out among the most fucked of them all, and was one of the tyrant kings the Lagoon had so many of. At least he wasn’t weak, like the others. Legacy, she’d been a fucking mess, and Anath wasn’t surprised that she’d died young. Bane was so weak in the stomach that she was a politician now. Stratton, well, he’d probably gone off and died. Four children came before the boys by her side… all of them fuck ups. Anath hearkened back to her first conversation with Rade in the Lagoon, and she knew that his were in the same vein. Our kids’ve made a regular shitshow of everything… he certainly wasn’t wrong.

They had the chance to unfuck it now, at least. There would not be chaos, at least not of the worst kind, when they had to step away for the last time. The future of the islands rested on their heads, these boys. Big shoes to fill at their feet– Anath wouldn’t get sentimental. She’d deny the fact that she was a sentimental beast until her dying breath. They’re dead, we’re here, the champagne mare could hear Rade’s words echoing about in her head. He was right. They had to keep going. They would always have to keep going.

Twins hadn’t killed her the first time. They didn’t kill her the second time. Despite her advanced age, Anath coped relatively well. Though she’d taken far longer than a younger mare would have, eventually she returned to her feet. Eventually she gathered her wits and her exhausted but only-as-damaged-as-usual frame to return with both boys to the heart of the island. To the Meadow. And from the Meadow, across to the Lagoon. Two boys… Rade had to know, and had to see them. What they’d do about custody would be a conversation for them to have together. With a pang, she thinks of making a very similar walk with Stratton at her side… the last time she’d seen her son. No. That would not be the way, especially with two boys instead of one.

Rade had run off… she wasn’t even sure how he could run with that much damage, but go off. They’d taken the time together, hidden away. One thing had led to another, and it was more real than Anath had realized. For the first time in fuck if she knew how long, she cared for someone other than herself. Intimacy was dangerous, but what was life without a bit of danger? It didn’t matter. Time was fickle, and it would only be on their side for so long. When she woke up without the boss by her side, she wasn’t surprised. Disappointed, but not surprised.

Anath would have done the same thing.

If it hadn’t been for the children now by her side, she wouldn’t have returned to the Lagoon. Well, she wouldn’t have returned without good reason. It was midday when she arrived at the edge of the Lagoon, spring sun harsh on her back. On the border, the general stood, and let go a singular call. It was for Rade and Rade alone. Despite her advanced age and the exhaustion she still felt in her bones, Anath was still a formidable creature. Certainly not one to be trifled with. She’d still absolutely wreck anyone who came too close, and anyone who crossed a line, no two ways about it.

With both boys by her side, she stood and waited for the boss. Her head was high, green gaze sharp as she peered into the Lagoon. Did he even… did he know? Had he known before he left? Did he know and then leave anyway? Anath did her best to steel herself. Emotion was weakness, and she wouldn’t allow any cracks in her armor to show. She couldn’t. Fierce as ever, even with both wet behind the ears colts by her side, Anath waited and watched.
