Winter Wren

A Winter Wren just darted through the back yard here. I first heard a sparrow-like chipping ... tsip ... tsip ... tsip-tsip. I found it as it flew towards the canoe shed, and then it flew through the woods behind the house and northward out of sight.
Tiny, brown bird with virtually no tail visible while in flight.
I checked with the call note recordings in AllAboutBirds.org, and it seems to correspond with WIWR. In fact they describe the call note as "similar to the barking call of a Song Sparrow."
The Carolina Wren also has a similar call note, but more clear in tone, higher.
Either way, I was not expecting to see a wren of any brand right now. It should be south of Lake Ontario by all rights.
