CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster. Many thanks Lynda.
As I said previously a copy of his Service Record is only available by personal application to the Historical Disclosure Department of the Army Records Office in Glasgow.
If he was in India on D Day 1944 then he was a member of one of 3 battalions. The 1st Bn were already out in India at the start of WW2 and were later to form part of the legendary Chindits in Burma. The 10th battalion went out to India in 1942 and were involved in the first Arakan Campaign in Burma. The Battalion suffered severe losses and were withdrawn back to India where they remained for the rest of the war as a training battalion. The 1/8th battalion were part of the BEF in France during early 1940 and were evacuated through Dunkirk. Later, following reorganization they went out to India and then served in Burma with great distinction as did the 1st and 10th battalions.
His Service Record will reveal all. Sadly due to the pandemic it can take up to 12 months to obtain a Service Record.
If you go to the Index Page on the Web Site and click on the button marked Postings Gallery you can look up and read all about the LF's in India and Burma. Click on each battalion in turn and follow the instructions at the head of the page. If he was in India during June 1944 then I think it a high probability that he was a member of the 10th Battalion. Both the 1st Bn and 1/8th Bn were then in the thick of the fighting in Burma. You will find numerous photographs and one never knows... you just might spot him!
