Townsend's Solitaire, and a Saw-whet

A little update about the bird that has caused a stir on Green River Drive. The Townsend's Solitaire has been in my yard since at least Monday. I had been hearing some calls I couldn't identify the previous week, so that's who it may have been. It's feeding on the crab apples in the front yard.

The night following my first sighting, a Saw-Whet Owl roosted in a basswood over the bird feeders. I had just found a mouse trapped in the dog food bag, so brought bag and mouse (extremely chubby; it must have been in there for a while) outside and let it loose. The mouse made it about 12 feet along the snow before the Saw-whet dropped down and dispatched it. You're more than welcome, I said to the owl as it flew into the woods.
