Spring arrivals

In North Simcoe there's a wonderful loop around farm fields that always has some good birds in spring. It runs up Carlyon Line, along Jermey Road, down Burnside Line to Maple Valley Road and back. On the 12th we saw three Great blue Herons with about 10 Greater Yellowlegs, all poking around some low wet areas in one field. Tree Swallows were working the area, too.
Yesterday on Canning Road, at one of my Atlas point count sites, we found six more Tree Swallows, a mass of Killdeers all screeching together, first Wilson's Snipe of the season. Other notables: Belted Kingfisher, a male Harrier showing his colours over the same field, a Meadowlark in song and a pair of Golden-crowned Kinglets in a pussy willow by the railway tracks. Lovely warm day for birding, unlike today.
