that’s all we know for truth;

Arneis
bay dun snowcap| 16.2hh | nowhere

Parv approaches with Devi in tow, and Arneis can’t help but smile. He wonders if some of the others have struggled with it- that they aren’t really sure who her sire is. It’s never been difficult for him - after all, he was raised by a herd that had no blood relation to him. If someone was taken in, they were family. Why should it be any different for Devi? She calls him Dad, Parv sees him as her father and that is all that matters. Family is a choice - he knows this well. It isn’t only blood. “Hi sweetheart,” he says happily, brushing his muzzle over her own when she reaches out. She doesn’t really look like him - no spots in sight, but she’s shaping up to be a pretty little thing, and he is certain when she is grown she will be a princess worthy of her mother’s title.

Shamelessly, he cuddles up to the warmth of Parvati’s body. He knows this land is her ancestral home, that she grew up on this snowy, frozen isle and is well adjusted. But he is not, and though Arneis is hopeful he will adjust it has been a miserable few weeks. “Freezing,” he agrees softly. But he doesn’t regret it - he would follow Parv and their daughter anywhere. No matter what, he wants to be with them. Even if it means being perpetually cold. “What about you?” he asks, nudging Devi gently. “And our little girl? Are you two staying warm?” Maybe, because it is in their blood this doesn’t bother them. But Arneis grew up somewhere much more temperate - like before they moved. He doesn’t really know what all goes into leading a territory (and Arneis is sure he doesn’t want to find out - better to leave that to Parvati) but she has been moving around a lot, guarding the borders and visiting others nearby. He is also pretty sure that he’s the last of the herd still around - there are others, strangers that he doesn’t really know, but Arneis is pretty sure they aren’t staying for Parv. “Is it safer here, being close to your father? Or do you think you will be challenged again?” Arneis worries for her - he knows she is wildly capable, but still, to face down a fully grown stallion is a daunting task, especially for a pregnant mare.
