The quiet that stretched between them once leaving Roisin behind was a comfortable one, though Tyr wasn’t sure how long it would last. Even Vadim had gone quiet, focused and contented on his job of leading them to the Falls. The General was still alert to their surroundings, keeping to his word of protecting the mare until she was in a safer territory, though he doubted anyone would be brave enough to approach them now that they were out of the open of the Commons.

When Djuna finally spoke, Tyr gave her a brief glance, surprised that was her opening question. He had assumed she would avoid the topic, only focus on the beauty of the Falls when they got there, and then he would excuse himself of her company once he could pry Vadim away. “The Lagoon is typically a home for stallions, as Roisin said, although some mares do choose to live there.” Tyr replied. “When leadership was under a different stallion, the Lagoon earned a bad reputation. Progress is slow in changing the opinions of others that the Lagoon is no longer ruled the way it was before.” He was sure that he was putting it lightly to the depth of that statement, but as a stranger to the Islands he didn’t want to overwhelm her with all that had truly happened.

“As for the territory, I suppose you could consider it swampy. But for those that know where to look, there are a few places I’ve been told are beautiful in it’s own way.” Tyr described. As he finished, they stepped passed the last few trees that opened up to the view of the falling water. The stallion paused, tilting his head up to look up the cascading water. Somewhere at the top, in the Peak, he assumed Oswin and Oswald lingered. Briefly, he wondered fondly how they were doing, but then the sound of Vadim broke through his thoughts.

“Look! Look! Isn’t it amazing!” the colt chirped excitedly as he stood at the edge of the pool looking at them. “It’s the best view on the entire Crossing Island! The water starts at the very top of the Peak, which is why it’s so cold!” Vadim informed before he turned back towards the water, lowering his little velveteen muzzle so that it could brush the water’s chilly surface.

“The Peak, where Roisin is from, is a home for mares like the Lagoon is for stallions.” Tyr said, dropping his gaze to look at his son once more as the colt reached out to playfully paw at the water. “I hope change comes sooner rather than later. I don’t want them to look at him the same way they look at me.” The General can’t help but confess.
