Re(5): Mid'n Cruise, June or July 1951

I also remember Youngster Cruise as a highlight of my time at the Academy. I was on n APD (I think the BURDO). We arrived at OSLO about the longest day of the year. We were tied up to a pier near the Oslo city Hall. In the middle of the night it was daylight and Norwegians would be on the dock looking at the ship. I'll just mention two incidents.

!. A red headed sailor returned from liberty, saluted the flag and the OD then ran across the deck and dove into Oslo Harbor, from which he was fished out.

2. As we were departing Oslo, we were lined up o the fore part of the ship and a first classman from Notre Dame said we should sing them ( the people on the pier) a song. So as the ship pulled away from the pier we sang "now is the hour that we must say goodby, soon we be sailing far across the sea ..... That was my high spot.
