CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster. Hi Les
Keeping things short I can tell you that the 1st Bn LF left Maryhill Barracks, Glasgow on Friday April 24th 1891 and embarked aboard HMS " Assistance ". They were landed at Belfast at 2 pm Monday April 27th and the Bn were dispersed / posted as follows : Four Companies, band and drums at Victoria Barracks, and four at Willow Bank Barracks with 39 men at Carrickfergus under the command of Lt.C.L. Robinson. The Bn remained in Belfast until June 1st 1893 when they again embarked aboard HMS " Assistance ". They sailed on the 2nd and disembarked at Kingstown on the morning of the 3rd reaching the Curragh at 1.30 pm that same day.
Of interest....... from April 22nd to 26th 1893 the Battalion were engaged in assisting the civil authorities to suppress riots in the street of Belfast......history to be repeated eh!!?
Above information from  A History of the Lancashire Fusiliers Volume 2 by Major B. Smyth M.V.O. dated 1904.
