CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster. In summary.
In January 1881 the 1st Bn XXth were in Malta. Owing to the reduction of the Malta Garrison the XXth were suddenly ordered to return to England and they embarked on board HMS "Himalaya" on 15th January and arrived at Queenstown on 27th January. The following day the Bn disembarked and was quartered at Cork Barracks. The strength of the regiment on this date was seven officers, 38 Sergeants and 508 other ranks. The unsettled state of affairs in Ireland in 1881 prevented both officers and men from taking  the customary leave of absence on the return of a regiment from a tour of foreign service. On 1st July, 1881 the title of the regiment was changed from "XX" to the Lancashire Fusiliers. On 3rd November, two companies of "LF's" were sent to garrison Haulbowline, Cork Harbour; and one company to Youghal on 5th December. On the 25th January 1882 the battalion was placed under orders to leave Cork. On the 27th the HQ and five companies proceeded to Templemore, and two companies to Tipperary, and one company to Nenagh. Subsequently detachments were furnished to Newcastle, County Limerick, and to Scariff, County Clare, Roscrea, County Tipperary, and Carlisle Fort, Cork Harbour. Whilst stationed in Templemore the regiment frequently furnished parties to aid the civil authorities at evictions, seizures of cattle and property, and manned different protection posts in County Clare, Limerick and Tipperary. The battalion remained in Ireland until 21st September,1885 when they embarked on HMS "Assistance" and arrived at Chatham on the 24th. They originally occupied Chatham Barracks but the following day they were ordered from Chatham to Manchester. A whole new story then unfolds!
The 2nd Bn were also in Ireland at this time but that again is a whole different story.
Hope the above information which is only a summary of events answers your questions.
I am now going for a lie down...me 'ed 'urts!
