What you want ain't always what you need

She had no idea anyone was watching the exchange between herself and her younger brother. If she had, she never would have mentioned taking the Dunes for himself. The only reason she had was because of the constant change of leadership and knowing her brothers ambitions. Aries talked about getting into some power, gaining a family, and learning to protect his loved ones. He didn’t seem to want absolute fame, or even a whole herd, but he wanted enough that others would know his name. That his name would mean something to somebody. She understood the need, but she didn’t have the same wants that he did. Scorpio has been a loner for this long, but she wouldn’t mind finding some companionship in someone who finally decided to keep the Dunes under their control. As long as they were kind, just, she wouldn’t deny their rule. There was no way to know who this new stallion might be or what he might want with the herd he built. At least there was not many (if any) of the past herds left to see what was happening to their home.

Scorpio watches the sea as her brother grows further and further away. In her mind she wishes him luck on his journey to find love, but at the same time she didn’t want him to leave so soon. But she wasn’t alone for long. A gentle nicker perks her curved red ears so Scorpio turns her gaze on the spotted stallion approaching. Immediately, she can see that he was young and not someone native to the sands. The stallion was not lean like most desert bred horses nor did his ears curve like some of their did. He was very tall, but the much shorter mare didn’t feel intimidated by him. The years of solitude have hardened the mare and given her the confidence to take care of herself. Her ears flicker annoyingly as the words roll off his tongue. So he had been listening to her private conversation with her brother? Who knows how much the stallion has heard, but did it really matter? No one has stayed long enough for such words to matter anyway.

Joachim asks who she was, commenting on how accustomed she seems to be of the place. ”I was named Scorpio the day I was born on these very sands. I have remained here for just about all of my breathing moments.” She turns to fully face the stallion with a huff. ”What makes you want to try your hoof at owning the Dunes? No one who has claimed this land has stayed for very long. Not in the last two years at least. I have watched them all come and go.” She stares at the stallion to gauge his reaction to her words. What plan did he have to bring life back into this place?
