Zevulun asked if Ori was from one of the other islands, and the big caramel stallion shook his head. “Mainland,” he said thoughtfully, looking in the general direction of where he had made his journey into the ocean. “I grew up in a valley. Pretty sheltered, but beautiful,” he added with a chuckle. “Something about it, though… just never felt right. Just something missing.”
For anyone else, this might be a lot to share with a stranger on a first meeting, but Ori was more or less an open book. He didn’t expect anything from Zevulun following his admission, and his tone was conversational, if a little wistful. He smiled toward the paler stallion, and swooped down again to grab another bite of the sprouts at his hooves.
As the painted male continued, describing the peacefulness of his home, Ori found himself envisioning the ‘missing piece,’ the object of his wanderings. He doubted the place Zevulun described was That Specific Place (Ori doubted That Specific Place actually existed outside of his fantasies) but it piqued his interest nonetheless. He felt drawn to the place, that familiar pull of wanderlust that dragged him perpetually from place to place. His blue eyes rested companionably on the other male as he spoke, and when he finished, Ori nodded.
“Peace has been an… object of my wanderings,” Ori mused. “Not the only one, but I certainly favor those rare few places I find where the world just seems quiet, and kind.” Those were few and far between, he had learned. “I’d love to come and experience it sometime,” he said with a chuckle. Not ‘come and see it,’ because the way Zevulun had described it, Luthien was more than just a tourist destination.
