Ned was a unique individual and tough and daring friend. i knew him first at NAPS then as a MId. On USNA Summer leave we together got a hop to Columbus OH , he was headed to Grooss ile NAS< & I Chicago, the layover in Columbus was a intersting adventure: we was hitchhiking in our Khakis from the airport side road,to get something to eat & drink. We got picked up by an old friendly gent, he took us to a local gin mill. where we spent quite a long time , he picked up the tab, then left us, We wondered what was he going to tell his wife as he told us he went out to just mail a letter.
Later some guy made some smsrtassed remark to Ned regarding his uniform, I had to avoid a bar brawl and restrain Ned from attacking the wise guy. Ned was not to be trifled with. He had GRIT Replies:
