Voice from the Grave

Oh she loves ABC's two lookalike anchors and how they dramatize and repeat.

Yes I drive her nuts when I keep saying stuff like "That's the tird time we've seen that scene", or the third time they've used that lead sentence--in a tease, in an intro, and verbatum from the reporter.

I remember when I was a field reporter I loved doing longer pieces so I could tell more of what I'd learned...but producers waste almost a minute in front of my pieces repeating my lead sentence, I got ape shit. Especially when they steal my thunder and tell the story seconds before I do, so I have to say every night, "That's right david..."

I'd expect the braintrust in NY York would coach those mistakes out of them rather than double down on them.

And how they confuse everyone by omitting verbs, leaving the When out of their copy. Its distortion allowed for the sake of creating immediacy that is false.

Consultants have always gotten in the way of our craft. Makes ya wonder how news survived withOUT em!

Thanks for the chance to bitch abt it again. No, wife hates it when I interrupt her attention, but hell, it's the third time David has told those few facts, so why should she give a shit?

The easy fix is for the reporter to just assume the anchor will steal the lead sentence...and not write it into his piece again! Add to the story, don't repeat it! I know, they must be smarter; I'm just an old guy who learned it forty years ago.
