but darling, what if you fly?

Nothing could have surprised Roux quite as much as Faline's admission of who her tormentor was, and she stared wide-eyed, trying to comprehend such a thing. Sonorae was annoying sometimes. Often overbearing. Even a tad mental sometimes, if you asked Roux. But she was never cruel. If anything, fighting back against Rae's parenting style was a bit like punching down around the time that Roux could talk, and her dam certainly hadn't grown a backbone since.

The silver filly waited breathlessly as Faline hurriedly began to explain, painting a picture of a life so fundamentally different from her own that it was like someone was reading a bedtime story to her. She left room for heroes and villains, dropping hints and clues with each bashful flutter of her too-pretty eyes, all for a quest of epic and monumental proportions. She even extended an open hand to Roux to serve as a sidekick, which while certainly nowhere near as good as playing the main character, was absolutely better than not playing at all.

"Yes," Roux answered emphatically, before the offer had even been made. In truth, it's a bit of a miracle that she waited for the girl to pause in her story before she professed her desire - nay, need - to be a part of this epic quest.

"We'll find the Thicket and reunite you with your momma, and then we can help her find whoever it is she's looking for." There was not a shred of doubt in the silver girl's voice, even though she had no plan for accomplishing her grandiose promises. She stretched her muzzle eagerly forward to brush it along the bay filly's cheek to comfort her in unconscious mimicry of her mother's own behaviors. "Don't be scared! This is going to be so fun, I promise."

Energized by this new and exciting direction, Roux turned abruptly away from Faline to scan the horizonline, her green eyes narrowed in contemplation. "The Thicket has to be that way somewhere," she mused aloud, already taking a step in the direction she was facing. "Daddy always said that Luthien was the next island to the North of Paradise." Of course, Tinuvel was also to the North, but Roux wasn't particularly worried about that. Islands were big. Surely they wouldn't end up on the wrong one by accident.

"We'll have to get to the shore to see for sure of course," she murmured half to herself, her brow furrowed in concentration as she stepped forward. "But I'm pretty sure it's this way." Too excited to wait, she danced another few steps forward with her tail whisking across her haunches as eagerly as a new puppy. A few steps later and she craned her head back to the bay filly with an encouraging smile, hoping to find her new best friend at her side. "You're ready to do this, right?"
