Great job setting up the story but after ya hit the ball, you're supposed to drop the bat and start running the bases.

What happened? What assholery did the ND retort to the viewer? Did the cops get it wrong and the reporter just accepted that or made a fatal assumption?

If I'd written that, 4's ND Joyce Reed would have warmed my ass, and the producer's too. Had that done once. I couldn't hardly sit down.

The bad part was she said if I'd committed a factual error again, I'd be gone. As many facts and as little time as reporters have to process and air them, that translates into a short term gig, pretty much guaranteed.

I think I'd record every intv on my smartphone if those were the working conditions. I think lots of newspaper reporters do exactly that. Course producers, who know even less about the newsgathering take even more liberties when they write teases and intro's, so everybody's at risk when pumping up stories under time limits..
