Damascus

Oberyn's words shook the young stallion from his thoughts. Travel the islands together? A feeling rushed through his chest, filling his veins and circling his body. It had been so long since he had felt it, that he had forgotten what it's name was. At last, his memory succeeded. It was relief. He didn't have to look too long at Oberyn to know that his twin had been shouldering much of the same burdens since they had last parted ways. What had ended in a stony silence last time was slowly crumbling into comfortable familiarity.
Damascus angled his head towards the South, trying to catch a hint of the new islands on the light breeze. Though his nose wasn't good enough to pick up what was that far away, he could almost scent the potential in the air. His nostrils quivered with excitement which he quickly hid before realizing that the walls he had put up to protect himself might not be so necessary anymore. He nodded slowly, starting to form a plan.
"We should head South,", he started, his thoughts slowly picking up speed. I've spent long enough stagnating on this little stretch of land, and I've known for some time that there was nothing here left for me.. He paused for a moment and allowed a small smirk to flit across his face. "Though, I suppose that's not true. Had I decided to perish or leave, I might not have run into you again, brother.". The word was foreign on his tongue, but felt almost ancestral. He wondered if maybe twins ran through their heritage. He had never asked his mother or his father about it, and he knew that the chance of survival for twin foals was extremely low. Still, it was a curious thought.
He couldn't help but to kick up his heels at the thought of once again travelling with his brother. "When would you like to leave here? We could stay for more time or leave immediately.". There was nothing here that he felt he needed to say farewell to, except maybe the small frog that lived in a calm part of the stream that ran through the trees. That frog had stayed by his side, and once, Damascus had even saved it from a snake. Of course he was reading too much into it as the frog likely had no higher-level thoughts, but he liked to think of it as a friend.
"I'm ready for our next adventure, Oberyn."
