{you feel it in your chest}

living beyond your years, acting out all their fears

From her perch upon the mountainside, she would see him coming, and looking ahead - though he could not see her, as the copper stallion followed her scent trail for the second time in as many weeks, Starscream could not help but wonder if she’d be watching. Not just for anyone, but for him. Despite the fact that their first meeting had literally been rained upon, and in spite of the fact that he had been drawn aside from pursuing her ‘til now, make no mistake; Starscream had not forgotten the mare whose coat was as dark as midnight shadow, and whose hair was bright as the full moon.

It was her eyes, though, that he remembered most ardently, though, pretty and provocative, with an emberglow promise of great and terrible things.

Perhaps he was romanticising. It wouldn’t be the first time. And surely, the esteem with which he regarded her was largely unearned (at this stage), given that their previous meeting had been woefully brief, and a little too crowded for Starscream’s liking. But the stallion was devilishly intelligent, and seldom were his first impressions terribly wrong. It was a dangerous thing though, to read too much into the character of another, the way he had. The stallion was not blind to the fact that he may well be setting himself up for crushing disappointment, but if that’s what it came to, he was confident he could use that to his favour somehow. (Play the broken-hearted card, perhaps, or adopt a broody, emotionally distant persona.)

What he could not do, however, was forget about her.

And so he followed the path she had taken, outwardly relaxed, giving the impression of aimless wandering, even though to a certain pair of eyes, it would be anything but aimless. He did not deviate once from where she had stepped, even if his roaming gaze took note of easier routes. Onwards he went. Leaping from stone to stone. Scrambling up the gradual incline. Taking care to set each hoof precisely amidst the scree. Until finally, he halted there, just below the ledge upon which his onyx-and-sterling quarry was exquisitely poised.

"My, my, what a pleasant surprise," he drawled after several long moments, words breathy, muscles taut as they held him steady on the slope, eyes dancing as he finally let them settle upon the mare’s face. There is no surprise at all, in his tone, just a deep and resonating satisfaction. Starscream takes a small step forward, the movement confident and gracefully smooth, but he does not press his luck just yet. A playful smile unfurls across his lips (a smile within a smile) and he tips his muzzle as he seeks to hold her gaze, looking up at her with his burnt-honey eyes.

"Fancy meeting you here." There is no flicker across his face to betray him - the truth is he never gives himself away unless he means to. Starscream discerns that the silver-maned beauty will hear it in his voice, and the intelligence he’d discerned in her when he’d first set eyes on her earlier in the valley meadow, well… He knew that she knew that he’d come here knowing exactly what he’d find. But, it wouldn’t be half as much fun if he made the game too easy now, would it?

Might as well take it slow and savor every moment.

Still very much focused upon his companion, ears twisted toward her as if in expectation, "Did you come for the view, too?" He asked his question husky-soft, placing a subtle emphasis on the last word, offering it with carefully crafted coquettishness as he abandons his cursory scanning of the slopes below to instead favour her with his undivided attention, watching her coyly from the corner of his eye, waiting for her to make her move.
