vihar

With Vala tucked safely away under Nadja’s watchful gaze, Vihar slipped out of the crowded Cove. After her time in Paradise in isolation, she was finding it difficult to acclimate to the Cove’s large herd again. She kept to herself as much as she could in the mountains that towered above her home, only emerging to chase down and catch her energetic daughter. Vi found it difficult to keep the cream-colored filly in isolation with her, and after a certain point, the tobiano mare could no longer bring herself to keep the girl restrained. She found it difficult to admit that she needed a break, but finally she descended the mountain to hand the reins over to her mother for the day.

Tinuvel was already beginning to submit to the clutches of winter, but as Vihar swam toward the Crossing, the cold Northern waters gave way to still-warm Southern waves. The central isle was clinging stubbornly to the early-autumn heat, and the sun was pleasantly uninterrupted by clouds as it warmed Vihar’s sodden coat.

As she emerged onto the sand, the painted mare shook herself out and took a minute to look out over the unfamiliar landscape. She held onto a vague memory of this place; she had escaped her parents one day as a young filly, and met a very rude Lagoon colt in the Meadow. The memory was enjoyable, despite the little brat’s attempts to prank her as she napped in the leaves. Life had been far simpler, then.

Unhindered by other knowledge of the Crossing’s different territories, Vihar found herself meandering in the direction of the Meadow. It was hardly familiar, but pleasant all the same to step into the sun-soaked field and lift her muzzle into the haze of floral perfume and rays of sunlight. She was tired, and cold from her swim, but the Meadow was warm and inviting, and her sleepy walk soon picked up into a lofty trot. She didn’t feel like a filly again, not really, but she was more energized than she had felt since Annubis left, and she burst into a short series of bucks, almost intoxicated by the change of scenery.

Outburst concluded, Vihar slowed back to her trot, and then a walk once again. She shook herself out, feeling refreshed, and dipped her muzzle to the green at her hooves and began to graze.
