I have, as many other fans have done, gone to many different types of racing (NASCAR, USAC Shows, INDY Car, Midgets, Sprints, Modifieds, etc.) Many of the fans I talk to feel Super-Modifieds were some of the best and most exciting racing over the years. However, many only attend certain shows because the car counts are way down and no-one appears to be trying to fix it. Except the 3 wing shows at Oswego were an improvement. Thanks to Nicotra and others. But even with that, car counts should be higher with the purse paid for those shows plus point fund. I attended 2 of the 3 410 sprint car races at Weedsport and they were packed. Great promotion - clips all over the TV leading up to the racing even. Even on the YES network (Yankee Entertainment channel). I still feel that Oswego does poor promoting of their speedway and need to get the purses up. They should swamp the advertising prior to the last traveling wing supers in August (this month) Along with the uncertainty of the sport with many rumors flying, new cars are not being fabricated. Costs are a factor, but these sprint cars are not cheap especially running several shows per week. Supers will not come back overnight so some ingenuity is required to fix it if, it 's going to survive. Oswego somehow feels social media is enough to promote - but, that only works for fans that know the place exists. Not good to attract new fans to the sport. I said it before, rules need to be unified for the now 4 different groups that are participating. Another point, until car counts can get above 24, change the qualifying format so that fans get more than a feature event. Right now, the heats are just hot laps. When everyone is qualified and starting spot is set, no "B" main, they save the car for the feature only. The Speedway will only exits when you have a good product to sell. If supers are going to survive, changes need to be made to give the fans a quality product to promote and sell. I feel, the speedway knows this as some of the rumors, that are just rumors, could be in the making, Enjoy the sport while we still have it! Hopefully the 4 organizations are working to save the sport and bring it back to its prior popularity. More divisions to bring in fans do not work. The night is too long and some of the racing drives true super fans away with caution after caution. I cannot believe the Oswego owners are happy with what they see on the speedway - maybe dirt week brings them enough income to keep the speedway operating on a shoe string during the summer. Who knows? Maybe this post will spark some input from the speedway. I am sure proud reads this message board. Replies:
