Re(4): Wing Show 8-13-22

I felt both features were good. Still puzzled by the lack of 350's and BB Supers as payouts were considerable for the event. It could be that some were out of the points bonus as of the last race and elected not to travel but, I felt with $1200 to start a few may take advantage of the payout. All in all, these three wing shows were the best races at the speedway this year. I did thank John Nicotra for his efforts in arranging this event and hoped it might continue in 2023. Bentley still looks fit and was amazed he was able to climb into the super like he was 50. They had fuel feed issues on the 61jr and worked most of the evening making repairs. Not sure if they were able to fix it correctly. I am in agreement with re-draw, but not sure how to fix it. Here is the problem if you are a regular fan at Oswego. With the few cars that now compete, heat races are just hot laps. For example, the first 4 cars in the heats for the wing event are set for redraw. Once the cars get into that position they fall into place because it has no affect where they start in the feature. They save their tires. Drivers will tell you this. Therefore, at the wing events with redraw and regular shows for non-wing supers with handicapped feature starts, there is no reason to run hard in the heat races. We end up with heat races that are hot laps (basically) and only have a feature where racing occurs. Even with 24 cars, there is no "B" main or consi. I have felt for the last several years that with fewer cars, qualifying needs a change. I understand they are trying to hold down expenses but when you have a business, you must have a product that sells. The stands were only about 35-40% full at all of these shows. That was true for the non-wing shows also this season.
In general - it will take some effort to bring the supers back to a healthy number. However, the wing shows were a great improvement - it could be made better if points were awarded for the competing groups and change the qualifying format. The purse for these 3 MSS/ISMA and Oswego Challenge race was really good. If a few changes are made and if travel costs lower in 2023, I feel we could see more than 24 cars at this event in 2023. Let's hope it is brought back. One change for both wing and non-wing events next year would be better promoting. For the Outlaw Sprint shows at Weedsport in late July, the TV was flooded with advertisement on that event. And the place was packed both nights.
