CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster. Thanks for your reply.
The National Archives Medal Rolls record 5 George Fletcher's and 6 Harry Fletcher's but none named George Harry or Harry George Fletcher, who served with the Lancashire Fusiliers in WWI. The Medal Card Index held by ancestry.com returns similar results. Sadly none are recorded with the rank of Cpl...with exception of a 2Lt and a Sgt all are recorded as Pvt's.
The Forces War Record Web Site for WW1 Lancashire Fusiliers shows
5 hits trying George Henry and over 20 using just the initial G and a similar results with just Harry. Again none are Cpl's nor have both names together.
Unfortunately it is a regular problem trying to trace and identify individuals who have fairly common names. All of course are recorded under their regimental numbers and ranks and as I said earlier dates of birthday do not assist. Without further specific information to assist it is nigh impossible to identify the correct individual from searchable databases. Where did his family live around the time? (particularly his next of kin if known). On line search engines such as findmypast.com and Ancestry.com and similar genealogy Web Sites can be useful but they are nearly all subscription based and you would encounter the same problem with identifying the correct man.
I should add that the Fusilier Museum Bury do not hold any information relating to individual Veterans and they too would refer you to the National Archives or the Army Records Office in Glasgow for post 1920 Veterans.
Sadly on this I occasion I am unable to progress further with the information available.
Regards
Geoff Pycroft Researcher and Archivist
