GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
the longing leads to leaving

Darshan
and the loving leads to bleeding

The reunion with Larka had been bittersweet, and Darshan had limped along behind the grey mare without complaint, to the willow tree where once Larka had sheltered under to give birth. That felt so long ago, and if truth be told, Darshan no longer felt like the mare she had once been. The passage of time, and the losses and heartaches she’d accrued… It had taken a toll on her.

And life had kept on taking.

If not for Larka… Hearing of Balor’s demise, knowing that it happened because he was searching the islands for her. It broke what was left of her heart. And no matter what was said, even by Larka, it was something Darshan wouldn’t forgive herself for. Some days, she could hardly look at her daughter, at Larka’s son, knowing in her heart that if she’d never have left the Prairie all that time ago, perhaps their father would still be with them.

A stranger had been passing through the Prairie during a particularly dark day, and just like that, he wasn’t a stranger any longer. Darshan hadn’t meant for things to happen the way they did, but before long, there was no denying that the night she had spent with Romulus had become something far more. In some ways, it gave her a reason to keep fighting, despite the heaviness in her chest, and the ache in her shoulder that would never leave.

After Khan, she hadn’t dared hope…

But thinking of her son across the sea that she could not return to… No, she’d find a way, she would. Maybe tomorrow. Because today, she stirred well after dawn and hobbled through the golden Prairie grasses, nibbling half-heartedly as she went. Cast a glance about for any of the herd nearby, didn’t catch sight of anyone immediately. Darshan thought briefly about calling for Larka, or Sitara. Maybe even Zevulun, who had been gracious enough to allow her to stay. But she settled in a patch of sunlight, and found her eyes drifting closed.

She wasn’t sure if she dreamed it or not, but she felt someone there beside her, someone whose presence eased the aching of her heart a little. The small, pale, curly-eared mare stirred a little, grimaced as she shifted her weight. But then the ghost of a smile curled across her lips, and she sighed in almost contentment, feeling closer to a sense of peace than she had in the longest time. "I’m so, so tired, beloved," the kathiawari mumbled. "I just need to rest a little longer, and then we… Then we can go wherever you want."
