The waves will never wash away the sun, but Reef appreciates the ocean's endless tenacity. It is strong, it is gentle, it is fierce, it is calm— it is complex, as multi-faceted as any other individual. Her ear ticks toward her companion as the other mare responds to her observation but lets her eyes remain held by the light glancing off the water. It is mesmerizing. She could stand here until the light fades and wait for the stars turn to reflect. The wind that blows in is cold, however, and she is not dry enough to enjoy a stationary evening on the beach. Especially not after she had just 'warmed up' by leaving one cold beach for another by the wettest, coldest, only route.
She could have stayed home, but where was the fun in that?
For Reef, the silence in companionable, but when she turns her head to look at the pale mother-to-be beside her, her brow furrows. The blue roan is quite comfortable anywhere she goes, around anyone she meets, but she is not so clueless as to think her company is welcome all the time. And, she realizes she has been quite rude by striding up on someone else's shores as if she were an expected guest. Not everyone has as wide-open a door as she.
"I'm Reef," she introduces herself, observing the other mare closely to see how far —or if— her preoccupation lifts when the little roan speaks. "I don't mean to disturb you— if you'd like to be alone, I can be on my way. I'm just getting one last vacation in before this one crashes the party," she adds with a chuckle, tossing her nose toward her heavy barrel. It will be some time, yet, but she'd rather be on the mountain when the foal comes.
And not, she thinks with a flutter of her heart, cozied up in the Prairie with its papa. It wouldn't do to give Zevulun the impression of permanence: she is a wanderer, free as the sea. |
