Hi Vince, if you Google Savoy Jazzmen at the Palm House there are a few videos of the band. I started playing the double bass in the army. The late Bob Askew a fellow scouser played cornet in the LF band and double bass in the dance band. He also sang with the band. When he sang we needed someone to play the bass. I volunteered and asked Bob to show me the basic finger positions. I soon learnt how to play it and thoroughly enjoyed it. After I was demobbed I looked up my old friends who had formed the Savoy Jazzmen. Fortunately for me their bass player was leaving the band within a few months. I bought a double bass and joined the Band October 1960. Purely a hobby but other than during the pandemic I�ve played at least twice a week since 1960. Peter Swensson.
