another night alone, a temporary dream

Well, there's nowhere left to go
Stay with me, stay with me

Rilke had been in his new home for the change of a season so far. He knew he was still new on the islands, but he was doing his best to become a leader worthy of holding the position, and creating a home where all would feel welcome- so long as they caused no harm to others. He had traveled to the Common to try and find those in search of a herd to join, but he had noticed that a few equines kept popping up throughout his territory. With a change of leaders it was most likely those who had called the Forest their home before his arrival, and far be it from him to throw any out who claimed sanctuary here before he even washed up to this new land. The stout painted draft was empathetic and always put himself in another's shoes before lashing out from anger, an outward appearance of fear.

Thoughts jumbled through his brain as he slowly made his way through his lands. He had gotten a pretty good feel for them in the weeks he had spent here, but he still liked to roam around and make sure nothing had changed, predators hadn't moved in, or to see if a stranger had appeared. Which, his nostrils flared, it seemed as if this latter possibility had occurred. Picking up his pace into a shuffling jog, he followed the scents of two... No, three others. His mouth quirked in slight confusion. It was not rage but curiosity that filled him more than anything. A whole gathering in his land? Who would be doing such a thing? Were they all part of the herd who followed the prior leader?

As they came into sight his champagne eyes took in two stallions and a mare, all much larger than himself. If things went south they wouldn't end well for him, but, he wasn't concerned. He didn't think they were here looking for a fight, and he was sure if he only asked what they sought that they could all come to terms. Stepping toward the group, he looked them all over, letting his eyes stay on the younger stallion a bit longer- something about him just didn't sit quite right- and he spoke, addressing them all equally. "I am Rilke, the new leader of these lands. May I inquire as to your names and why you are here?" It wasn't really a question, but he figured they knew that. After all, they were in his home.
