Ed: I've been up on Kings Mountain, and it's just as I wrote. The legend of Major Ferguson is that at the battle of Brandywine, he had George Washington fair in his sights, with his new breech-loading rifle. He could not miss, took aim, then for some reason, as he later wrote, could not bring himself to fire. But imagine if he had! He'd have brought down the one man who kept the Revolution together, all the way to Yorktown.
