She curls up in a ball as she had seen fawns do since her mother had brought her here and deposited her in the wilds. It had been at least a bit warm then, but it was not so warm any longer. The seasons were shifting, the colors fascinating her hazel eyes and helping her to forget [as much as one can in this situation] that her mother had never returned.
Her little curled ears, though hardly as curled as her ancestors, flick two and fro in the early evening time she usually bedded down. She was more and more nervous, realizing that her scent was starting to permeate the local environment and give away her position. She did not know such a thing could happen, but as she grew - so did the chill in the air, the potency of her scent in her little hiding place, and the difficulty in tucking under the brambles that had protected her until now.
Her little white nose sticks out of the hollow in the underbrush brambles where she lays now, the little heart on her lower ribs quivering as the late dew started to chill her further. What was she supposed to do now? When her mother had swam them ashore, she had turned so immediately back around to swim away as to leave her foal with no idea what purpose she might serve or what goal she might have. Born latest of the mainland’s spring, she only knew the minimum of grasses and plants on which she might sustain herself.
Never had she tried berries, or been in habitats that might teach her the barks and hard flora to survive on in winter. She sighs as she tries to close her eyes and rest - another day trying to find purpose would come whether she was ready or not.
