FIRE CANNOT KILL A DRAGONRhaenys is confident in herself as she dances on her hind legs. Her tail slaps idly at her flanks and she paws at her dam even as she raises up to meet her. It is only when Nyimara swings her hips into her that Rhaenys lets out a sharp gasp. The intake of air, and her mother bumping her, surprise her and she lets out an irritated squeal. Her tail lashes faster, stinging her sensitive skin with an audible snap. She tries, and fails, to catch her balance and ends up slipping back onto the sands with an audible "oof."
She laid on her back, front legs pulled tightly against her chest and hind legs splayed out, blinking several times. It is as much as a surprise as it is an embarrassment. Rhaenys flattened her ears, a million thoughts running through her head. First, she is learning. ”Never throw yourself off balance. It will give your opponent the advantage.” Her mother's words will be with her always. Second, she is thinking about how differently it could have gone. Third, she is mad at herself for making a mistake. After all, she is still a child.
”Come on little pup, lets see how fast you can run!”
Rhaenys' ears pick up and she turns to her dam who was already running. She scrambled quickly up on her hooves, kicking a spray of sand in every direction as she did. "I'm waaaaaaay faster than you!!" Her bruised pride from moments prior is already forgotten as she digs her hooves into the sand. Her legs churn beneath her small frame. Her growing mane and tail are pulled out behind her by the wind. A smile spreads it's way across her lips and as she nears her mother she nips playfully at her flank.
She digs in deeper, lengthening her stride to run abreast with her dam. The laugh that bubbles from her lips is still soft with youth but the sharpness of Nyimara's own is there too. Rhaenys throws back her head and lets loose a sharp whinny, swapping her lead a few times and bouncing her stride playfully. "Almost there!!" She squeals, attempting to pull forward to be the victor in their makeshift derby.
