Meadow

Even though Margarita doubted that Aventuras would have had any secret connection to the Lagoon, she still found herself raptly listening for her answer. It was the sort of thing that was supposed to be heavily frowned upon, which, of course, made it the most interesting possibility ever. When the denial came, the black and white girl wrinkled her nose but said nothing. She could only imagine how much trouble the first of their sisters would be in if they ever ended up as a Lagoonie's mare.

"What do you mean?" Marg asked incredulously, turning back to face her sister at her admission. "You haven't ever thought of what they would be like?" There was no hiding the doubt lurking in her tone and her gaze narrowed at her sister, incapable of believing that her sister had never daydreamed about what her partner would look like.

"I want someone taller than me," she went on confidently, moving forward as Aventuras had indicated, her mind far away. "With no white marks," she said with a wrinkle of her muzzle. "I don't wanna see dad each time I look at them. And," she continued imperiously, "he needs to be kind and strong, and very handsome. Or she, maybe," she said with a self conscious little laugh, thinking of the stories she'd heard of Cicek and her time before the Cove.

"You really haven't thought about it at all?" she asked her sister as she jogged forward, her gaze darting between Aventuras and the landscape around them. It was early enough yet that it didn't seem like there were many other horses to run into, but there was evidence of them all around them in the packed down trails and fresh prints through last nights snow. Sooner or later they'd have to run into someone.
