The snow audibly crunched beneath the Harbor King's hooves as he moved through the crossing. His thoughts wandered between his fadir, the Nordurland, and back again. Each thought brought up fresh memories of others he had known (and loved) along the way. Esther. Isabel. His breath caught in his throat at the thought of both of them. (Little did he know that Isabel was dead.) And Esther he had not seen since their arrival in the Inlet - so many months ago. His heart clenched at the memories... He continued across the windswept snowy meadow, his head low and his glacial blue eyes trained on the brilliant snow ahead of him. It is not until a familiar voice whispered through his memories that he slid to a halt and drew his gaze toward her. Curiously he took a step closer, his eyes blinked again. Esther? By gods could it be? "Are you keeping warm? she asked as she glanced up. He swallowed back the emotions that balled in his throat. She is just as beautiful as he remembered. "Esther," he breathed as the distance between them narrowed, "I have come home." How could he ever explain his reasoning behind leaving her...leaving Oren? Would she understand his need to return to the Nordurland and what had occured while he was there? He swallowed all the questions and inched closer. He would understand her anger. And would take every curse and blow, if only it meant she could forgive him. "I am sorry, įstin mķn, (my love), " he paused as the words constrict in his throat. Nervously, he awaited her reaction to his return. Would he be met with wrath and malice? Or with open arms? Only time would tell.
