I am the monster in the woods;

Though he is naive in the ways of mares, Loupgaru is not nearly as mindless as Parvati might think. His grudging acceptance of her request is met with giddy giggles and the press of her lithe figure against his own as she curls around him like a cat and then bounces off with a flick of her tail. ’A mindless dog… a collared and leash trained hound… that is what she thinks of us.’ the beast within snarls, its sharp fangs gleaming and its taloned claws raking at the ground. The fur along his spine prickles as she speaks to her brother and offers him a flippant grin.

For a moment, the mask of indifference shifts and a genuine cheshire grin slides across his blackened maw. Yes, he had defeated her in battle. She might call it a spar but it had been a battle of wills and power. She had fallen that day, kneeled in defeat to him the victor and the wolf had howled in zealous triumph. She had paid a price for cinching the chains and deflecting his games with the pretty gray and white girl. But that price had not been high enough to make him leave and forget the two daughters he had created, even if he had no real desire to father them.

He watches silently as Parvati trots away with her proud head held high and delusional fantasies in her mind. He wants to growl his frustration after her retreating form but what good would that do him?

’I know she can be lame.’ Golden eyes shift to the painted stallion left in the Inlet Queen’s wake. A single brow raises suspiciously as he snorts his agreement and turns away without bothering to offer the boy an invitation. He either would follow and learn from him what he offered to teach or he would remain still and let his sister go on thinking he was deep in the throws of training. ”A legacy is a fleeting thing.” he muses, trying to hide the disdain from his voice as visions of the once mighty wolf flashes through his mind. ”Here one minute and gone the next. All that ever remains are the stories whether good or bad told when your bones bleach the earth.” he finishes with a switch of his own parti-colored tail.
