GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
and i can't be the one left here dragging you down

don't wanna wash you away
i swear there's good things that are coming your way

Of course she was rather kind with her response, and Raziel felt guilt twist painfully tight in his gut. It reminded him of Dahlia, which only made things worse. Raziel’s pale ears flicked outward, his tail twitching with a few short snaps. At her mention of the stallion she was seeking naked Lucerne, he vaguely remembered the name mentioned by his father as a newly joined member to the herd. Raziel hadn’t met him yet or, if he had, he’d forgotten (both were extremely plausible).

I thought it sounded rather hospitable.

Raziel blew a sigh out of the side of his mouth and gave his head a toss to get his frazzled forelock out of eyes. That was exactly what his father aimed for the Prairie to be, and if he learned Raziel had been rude to a respectful, kind guest like Tarot, he’d have his hide. Their relationship was already strained enough…

“No,” Raziel said bluntly when Tarot suggested she go look for herself. “I mean, you don’t have to go alone and you didn’t interrupt my day. I wasn’t doing anything.” He barely kept himself from adding that his father would kick his ass if he didn’t offer to escort her and see her safely to Lucerne.

“I’m Raziel, that’s Zevulun, my father. He leads here.” He explained, then jerked his head toward the inland slopes of the Prairie. “Let’s go find Lucerne.”

He didn’t sound particularly enthused, but it was clear he was somewhat trying. That’s what he always did anyway. He just tried to be better than he really was. For Ramiel. Because he wanted to be the individual his twin saw him as, not the bitter and angry thing he was in his heart.

But Ramiel wasn’t here… how long could Raziel fight the ugly truth of himself without his brother to keep him good?

Raziel shook out his coat, though he was really just trying to shake his thoughts free so he could refocus on her. His blue eyes fixed on her and he blew a breath out of his whispered lips, then started walking toward the direction he suspected they could find Lucerne or other horses of the Prairie to help her better than he could. He’d deliver her like the good little watchdog he was, then slink back off to isolation, loathing another day to pass.
