GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
we could be strangers in the night

YOUR LOVE IS ALWAYS DANGEROUS
and now i'm lost in us

He had been fully accepting of a reality where Larka rejected his closeness. But, when she instead leaned into him and let go, crying pain against his skin and making him ache, Zevulun let go of that expectation. Instead he gave her all that he could; he planted his pale hooves more firmly into the cool ground, intending to be the pillar of strength she needed to lean against in that moment. Just a short time ago when grief had overcome him and he’d been overwhelmed by the past catching up to his present, Larka had been there to comfort him. With the same patience and care she had shown him in that moment, Zevulun showed her.

He was careful not to overwhelm her. Zevulun remembered wrestling with his own guilt in the moment and how rewarding it had felt once he’d known he could trust her to let it go.

Though he wanted to kindly hush her the moment she apologized, he let her work through her thoughts, his heart aching as he looked down into her glistening, watery eyes. How was it possible that he could feel both so heartbroken for her, but so wholly in love with her at the same time?

“You don’t need to,” he grunted, whispering it to her. They were the only two beneath the stars, as far as he was concerned, but it felt right to keep their conversation as close to themselves as possible. In the same way they still pressed together, and he felt whole and didn’t want to break apart yet, despite the fact they’d been embraced for some time now. “Apologize or thank me,” he added, and nearly trembled beneath the soft touch of her lips on his cheek. His bright blue eyes turned on her, warm and affectionate.

“I…” He hesitated, then continued, “I love you, Larka.”

Zevulun had known it for some time now, recognized the truth in himself that he was too tired of outrunning.

“I promise I can keep that affection platonic, if that’s what you wish.” Foolish man, tucked up skin-to-skin, sharing kisses beneath the moonlight and still worrying his romance wasn’t desired. “But- I can’t keep going on pretending like it isn’t true.” He said, eyes searching hers. “Not when I’ve learned life can be so cruelly short.”
