Azalaïs confuses him.

He fully expected her to avoid him, definitely dislike him, and he would not have been surprised if she actively despised him. (He would have been more surprised if she didn’t.) Fell is still certain that at least two of those things are true at any given time, but there have also been moments when she seems to almost like him, though he’s never been very good at picking up those kinds of signals. It was the few times her taunting escalated to blows, which seemed to turn into almost-play, and of course there was that one time that he can’t ignore. It all confuses him, and he finds that he can’t quite puzzle her out.

As the seasons change and he gets no closer to figuring her out, it becomes more and more evident that the spotted princess is pregnant. Fell wonders if this is a bad thing, and for a while it’s his turn to avoid her. But as winter melts away, he can no longer delay the inevitable, and he figures it’s probably better to do this now than try to sort anything out after the baby’s born.

He has to trust that Azalaïs knows what he has come for, as he can’t communicate his intentions himself. If he could, he would want this to be a conversation of what happens now, but there’s nothing he can do to make this more than a monologue on her part. At least he can provide her with a receptacle for her thoughts, or suggestions, or insults, or whatever she wants to get off her chest before the child makes an appearance and… complicates things.

He picks her out in the early morning, snaking his head low for a brief moment just to get her away from any prying ears or eyes (and when they stop a short distance away, Fell double checks that Úna specifically has not decided to join them again). Then he waits for her to yell at him or bite him or send him on his way.
