Better to light one small candle

The quiet of the night bothers the stallion. There was no gentle wind to swish the leaves, or heavy breaths of sleeping forms around him. He didn’t hear a single night bug that sung its chorus to the moon, because there was no silver goddness hanging in the sky. She hid behind the clouds, casting a darkness that was equally as unnerving as the silence. As if to make sure he had not gone deaf instead, Bacardi let out a soft snort. Uneasy clear in the sound as it seems overly loud, assuring him that his black rimmed ears works perfectly fine.

With careful steps, Bacardi travels a less worn trail among the tall bare trunks of the forest. There was little brush here, only a heavy carpet of pine needles and leaves. It helps to muffle the sound of his hooves until the click of rock breaks the silence just before the crash of a wave against the shore follows.

It wasn’t often he traveled to this particular section of the shore, though he had at least twice that he could remember since claiming the forest. It gave a decent view of the Peak’s tallest mountain on a clear night, with the stars glittering in the sky and the moon to illuminate the lingering snows along the edges. Tonight was not so beautiful. The Peak was smothered in clouds, and the darkness barely allowed him to see the shore of the Crossing. It caused a heavy sigh to leave the stallion, knowing this wouldn’t be anymore helpful for his thoughts, than standing among the trees had done. At least the silence was broken by the waves, and the sound of his hooves against pebbles along the shore as he walked along the waters edge.

Soon, he would leave this Island and seek out the other leaders. It was time he stopped being so quiet, so distant, and to be a stallion his mother would be proud of. But first, he would watch his children be born. Bacardi valued such moments to let them be interrupted by the political needs he was neglecting.
