I am the monster in the woods;

The feral stallion kept a careful watch over Parvati as the days of her pregnancy began to come to a close. Each day, his golden eyes fell more and more on the low hang of her belly and the thought of the child that lay within. Though her claim of his sireing of the two fillies kept him here when everything else in him told him to flee at the first opportunity, this one he held no doubt would be his own.

When the day finally arrives that Parvati separated herself from her little boy toy and the small conclave of stallions she had claimed as her own, Loupgaru cannot help but to immediately find his hooves following in her wake. Like a stalking wolf he follows her, keeping far enough back as not to disturb her and yet close enough as to leap to her defense should anyone or anything mean her harm. This was his responsibility as her guard afterall was it not?

As the painted mare disappears into the shadows of the cave, the young wolf halts. There is no need to follow her into the darkness to know what was likely to transpire. Instead, he is once again left waiting in the shadows, albeit a bit more nervously than before. Yellow-gold eyes scan the treeline surrounding the mountainside, searching for another intruder like the damned Lagoon beast that had come waltzing fearlessly into the Inlet the last time the gold and white mare had gone into labor. The last thing he would allow to happen again would be another stranger wandering in uninvited. Nervously he paced back and forth beneath the shadows of the evergreen forest, pausing here and there to investigate familiar scents or leaving his own mark upon older ones. At one point, the wolf forced him to abandon his post to patrol the farthest border when the sounds of another stallion’s challenging trumpet rings over the valley. Of course, there was nothing to be found of an intruder, but that did not stop him from being the guardian he was meant to be.

After assuring himself that the stallion’s voice had not come from within the Inlet borders, Lougaru slowly made his way back towards the mouth of the cave where Parvati had disappeared. Yet as he breaks free from the dense foliage, he is greeted by the image of mother and child as they emerge from the dark shadows and into the sunlight for the first time. Small chocolate ears tip forward amid the tangle of his cream and ivory mane as the feral stallion lets a graveled nicker escape his lungs. Golden eyes travel over the child, beaming inwardly. A colt. He had a son.

Confident as always, the muscular stallion steps forward, closing the distance between himself and the mother and child at a brisk trot. His pace slows as he comes within range of Parvati’s teeth but that does not stop him from inspecting his new colt closer. ”Mine.” he murmurs, extending his ashen muzzle to inhale the milky sweet scent that clung to the boy’s coat. Yellow gold eyes glitter proudly as he risks his glance up towards Parvati expectantly. She had named him of course?
