Dumb mare, with her dumb pretty face. What was the point of dragging him off to Atlantis if she wasn’t even going to stay? The moment she said she was leaving, and that her sister was taking the place of Queen, Finley left. No longer bound to Atlantis, there was no reason for him to stay in the golden prison. Although his heart sang at being back on the beautiful beaches and among the thick greenery of his birthland, Finley refused to acknowledge it. Or to allow himself the pleasure of it. To him, happiness was nothing but a lie.
So, the grumpy stallion made his way back to the only place he could find consistency, again. Luthien tried to kill him with snow. Salem tried to kill him with rain. He couldn’t stand his mother on Tinuvel, and he refused to be a pet on Atlantis. Perhaps the Crossing was meant to be his home? But even that peace was short-lived. No sooner than Finley stepped hoof in the meadow to begin grazing, even as water still dripped from his brown body, did he hear a weird sound beginning to fill the air. Lifting his head, he squinted his blue eyes up towards the sky that had been clear and sunny only moments ago. Now it was beginning to turn black.
“What is that?” he muttered to himself since no one else was around. As if to answer him, a locust landed upon his shoulder. Then another upon his hip. He peered back at them before thousands begun to land on him and around him. With an indignant squeal that was on the verge of fear, Finley wheeled around and bolted for the Falls. The stallion gave a few good bucks along the way, trying to dislodge the bugs that still clung to him as he hoped to escape their wraith. Not wanting to be eaten too (or so he thought he would be).
