He'd never had someone call him nice before. Though, he'd never stuck around long enough for anyone to form an opinion of him either way. There was a part of the fiery red stallion that appreciated the sentiment. Another part of him wanted to bark out a laugh and recede back to the shore. His ears, one pale and one fiery, flicked back momentarily, hiding in the mismatched colors of his mane. "You flatter me." He gives a kind enough smile, albeit a bit awkward. Though it's hard to tell if it's the compliment that bothered him or simply the entire conversation. He can feel his heart thrumming in his chest, like a caged hummingbird desperate to get free. He can feel it coming. The question that anyone sane would go to next.
"Where are you from?"
His lips pull tight across his teeth, the corners dipping slightly into a grimace. It is a question that has kept him up many nights. Atlantis was an obvious enough answer, he supposed. Vadim wasn't asking for his entire history. It was a worthwhile and rather normal question to ask someone in a gathering area. An area specifically set aside for peace and fraternizing. He averted his gaze slightly, his gaze searching the distant trees in the direction of Atlantis. There is pain behind his eyes, wavering, as he clenches his jaw. Though the moment passes quickly and he offers up that same smile over his pink dusted lips. "I made my home in the ruins of the old island. The sea is kind to me. Kinder than horses, at least." The last part is bitter on his tongue, but it's the truth. |
