warning signs like butterflies

i am under no obligation
to make sense to you

Kohelet could not look at Fell as he limped along by her side; not because she was disappointed in him, but because she felt so little like herself that she was not sure she could refrain from laying into him instead simply because he was closest. He wore the marks of the battle he'd just endured for the sake of their daughter, and the ferocity with which he'd had to fight only made Kohelet more furious. This wasn't some errant Lagoon bachelor looking to make a name for himself, nor even their family's sworn enemies.

This was supposed to be an ally; and here he was, weakening all of them, and for what?

Had Loupgaru courted and wooed Una on his own, Kohelet would have let her go. With bad grace and only after doing everything she could to convince her otherwise, but she would have let her go. But to take her against her will? To ruin the stability of the whole of Tinuvel? What the hell was Parvati playing at over here?

Angry or not, Kohelet does not miss the way that Parvati's expression changes when she sees Fell. The way she goes from irritated and impatient to suddenly almost guilty further inflames the beast inside of her heart, pouring jealous fuel onto an already raging inferno.

"Your mongrel," she spits, the word twisting with disgust, "just took my daughter. Took your niece, Parvati. And it's not the first time he's tried either, just the first time he managed not to lose." Kohelet well knew how easy it was to turn a blind eye to the behavior of a lover, after all, she'd watched Fell bring in mare after mare, not all of them seeming pleased to be in the Bay. Hell, she'd even spoken to Maeve and knew for a fact that she was unhappy. But she was not the lead the same way that Parvati was. Fell was not her responsibility, but the other way around.

If she were out, causing havoc on the islands and risking long-standing alliances, Fell would be well within his rights to strip her of her power. And this was no tiff between strangers, or a mare that was a little unhappy. This was crossing multiple lines, and if Parvati didn't find a way to make it right, there would be far-reaching consequences for all of them.

"If he wants a mare so badly, he can go get another one in the Crossing if you aren't enough for him anymore. Hell, I'll even fetch him a mare myself if he's not capable." Reason, logic, restraint all went out the window. It was not going to be helpful for her to needle at her sister's ego, but she couldn't see past the red. The time for taking Parvati's feelings into consideration - at least for Kohelet - had gone out the door the moment Loupgaru decided to test his luck on allied lands. "As your ally, as your goddamned sister, Parv, I need you to send my daughter back."
