give me darkness when I'm dreaming; aventuras

Autumn is waning but the moon is full-bright over the meadow. The grasses nod against the chill, bowing their heads in sleepiness. Arroyo wades through them, nipping once, twice at the brown blades. There is a stirring in him, a pull in his chest that draws him into the openness. The orange-yellow moon is too bright for sleep tonight. He gazes up at her, legs shuffling into stillness as he chews absentmindedly at the two dry blades of grass between his lips. They are tasteless morsels, but he isn't hungry.

The moon's face smiles on him, the golden browns of his coat turned to something else, something shifting and silvery. The flame reds that gleam so brightly in his mane and tail when the sun touches them are hushed into auburn and sable. He stares at her for a moment, reverent in the face of her beauty. Then, he squeals quietly and half rears, spinning around and then tearing off a few strides before he realizes that he is not alone!

He skitters to a halt, his mane falling about his face. He laughs softly, boyish and full of joy, if not a little embarrassment.

"I'm sorry," he says, shaking his forelock out of his eyes. "I didn't see you there."
