GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
and i can't be the one left here dragging you down

don't wanna wash you away
i swear there's good things that are coming your way

As her face turned toward him, Raziel’s pale blue eyes caught hers and immediately took note of the sorrow in them. Her tears caught the moonlight, almost sparkling like the glittering stars above, and he found himself swallowing thickly back. Raw emotions always inspired a little fear in his chest, because Raziel knew he was filled with them and spent his life shoving them somewhere far, deep down inside. If he had to experience someone else’s sorrows he worried his own might coming bubbling up and, once released, the rest of his emotions might come rushing out afterwards.

No, her soft voice denies him and then, before she can speak again, he heard that hitch, that break in her breath that his heart knew better than he’d ever let on. Raziel’s head lowered as Sitara sobbed, and awkwardly the space between them remained as it was as he stood off, too far to offer physical comfort, knowing that if he was better at this (like Ramiel) he would be able to hush her worries and offer some sort of kind touch or even safe embrace.

I’m sorry, I thought I was done with this.

“No-” he said and cringed a little at how forceful and cold his voice first sounded. He was frowning too, which could make him look angry when he wasn’t… or at least, not at her. Raziel wanted to tuck tail, turn, and leave her in her grief, but not only did his hooves stay planted, he lifted them and slowly walked closer. “Grief is never done.” He said to her soft sobs, heart sinking at the truth he knew too well. “They same time heals it but,” he rolled his eyes, thinking of the pain that still followed him always. The abandonment of his mother when he was young; their father’s depression; of his aunt Mariael; of Dahlia and when he saw her in the Prairie with swelling sides, known she was carrying his child, and fled the islands in cowardice. “New grief just comes and replaces the old stuff and the whole damn cycle starts again.”

Not exactly the most comforting words to a girl sobbing her eyes out, but… Raziel wasn’t always the best at comforting.
