When Neph was finally dry and they had all had a chance to mentally prepare themselves, Sul began to lead them all toward the Arch but slowed as they approached the border of the Bay so that Mari could come abreast of him, with little Neph tucked between them. He paused in the snow and called out for Maizel or Fell, but did not stay at the border. They had told Fell they would come someday, and that their intentions were peaceful. Sul selfishly hoped that those conditions meant that he wouldn't feel the need to be present, but he had his doubts. They were intruding on the man's family, after all.

As they found a small clearing - the ground trampled into hardpack snow - the tobiano turned to look at Mariael in invitation. Sul wasn't sure Maizel would come to his call, but surely she would answer her sister.
